VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest

Patriot’s Pen gives 6th, 7th and 8th grade students the opportunity to express their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief by writing a 300-400 word essay.

The national first-place winner wins $5,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $54,500, with each first-place state winner receiving a minimum of $500 at the national level. Prizes are also awarded at District and Post levels.

VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition

Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay.

The national first-place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. The first-place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins a minimum scholarship of $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Prizes are also awarded at District and Post levels.

SPC Cameron J. Stambaugh – VFW Post 5265
Scholarship

VFW Post 5265 provides several scholarships annually from the Post in memory of SPC Cameron J. Stambaugh, a 2010 graduate of Spring Grove Area School District.

SPC Cameron J. Stambaugh was killed in action while serving his country in Afghanistan on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at age 20. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, 978th Military Police Company of Fort Bliss and was stationed in Afghanistan. He was awarded the rank of Specialist post humus.

Applications for the SPC Cameron J. Stambaugh – VFW Post 5265 Scholarship are available in the guidance office of Spring Grove Area High School.

Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the SPC Cameron J. Stambaugh – VFW Post 5265 Scholarship, VFW Post 5265, P.O. Box 54, Spring Grove, PA 17362.

Scholarships are available to graduating high school senior students in the Spring Grove Area School District. Students should visit their high school guidance office for information/application for these scholarships.
