History of VFW Post 5265 Ladies Auxiliary

With the presentation of the colors by the White Rose Auxiliary of York, the Ladies Auxiliary, Pvt. Allen J. Beck, Jr., Post 5265 was rganized on November 12, 1946. The presentation was made in the social room of the Spring Grove Fireman's building by Mrs. Rhea McCoskey, senior vice-president of the White Rose Auxiliary, who gave the Oath of Allegiance to the members and the officers who affiliated themselves with the auxiliary. Twenty five charter members were enrolled at the inaugural ceremony, with additional members being enrolled at subsequent meetings. Mrs. Eleanor Baublitz was installed as the first president. Mothers, wives, widows, sisters, daughters, grandmothers and granddaughters of honorably discharged officers or enlisted men who served in the Armed Forces of the United States, as specified by rules governing eligibility in the Veteran's of Foreign Wars of the United States are eligible to join the Auxiliary.

On June 29, 1948 the auxiliary voted to support a building fund and equip the kitchen of the post home, which was under construction. On March 29, 1949 the first auxiliary meeting was held in the social room of the new post home. The auxiliary equipped the kitchen with everything from dishes to and electric mixer, a piano for the social room, tables and chairs, and contributed money toward the mortgage of the post home.

The auxiliary has had many funding projects and the funds have been used to renovate the post home and to purchase needed furnishings. The auxiliary and post cooperate in sponsoring activities beneficial to their members and to the community.
